Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. Decker's parents emigrated to Louisiana at the beginning of 90s. Decker won a regional talent competition with a rendition of Patsy Montana's I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart when she was just nine years old. Decker relocated to Georgia around the age of 15. She was writing her first songs and made regular trips to Nashville, making the rounds of record labels and music publishers in search of a deal. Songs were offered to record labels and other artists by a Big Yellow Dog Records agent when she was 17. The demos of Decker were sent to L.A. Reid by Mercury Records President David Massey, who was at the time in charge for Island/Def Jam. Reid then signed Decker to a recording deal. The first self-titled effort under the moniker Jessie James arrived in August 2009. Jessie James had a moderately popular debut album. Wanted, a song of the album, reached the Top 40 singles chart. Although Decker had always considered herself a country artist the album was released and marketed using a popular audience in mind. Decker's music was under greater scrutiny after the release of two songs. The next song, Boys in the Summer featured a rural feel. Decker made her debut album under two different titles: Sweet American Dreams or Daughter of a Gypsy. Mercury shelved it after the first three singles failed to make it onto the charts for country music. Decker then was let out of the contract.
